I heard this yesterday and most of it is a load of bolloks! The ECU chipping thing is not practical the hid lights are again not that pratical but you can just swap them if you need to! I'll copy what a MOT tester wrote!!! Just give me a min !

Re: Changes to mot's as of april 2011
Right back again! Here's what a MOT tester wrote- I wouldn't worry about this, I am an mot tester and yes we are supposed to fail aftermarket Hid's that don't have lamp wash etc, and yes we are supposed to fail number plates not displaying issuers postcode, but discretion plays a massive role, the rule is that mot tests are NON invasive, cannot remove wheel trims to check the wheel nuts, but if there is no wheel trim and a wheel nut is missing then yes its a fail. Cannot connect any diagnostic or map reading software to a vehicle, this will never happen, there is a massive liability issue here.
I bet you didn't know that if your car bursts a brake pipe on the RBT then the garage is technically responsible for this, the same if a timing belt snaps during fast idle test. It has happened many times.
The customer is well within his rights to say it was ok when they brought the car in,
Now imagine going to collect your car to be told it won't start because the tester fried the ECU checking for illegal maps,
Don't think so !
How many garages will agree to pay out 2k for an ECU, certainly not me cos I won't be doing it !
The ministry are trying to legislate the introduction of wheel trim removal and undertray removal to check brake pipes etc, but this is years away.
At the moment we have to ensure the air bag warning light operates, but yes next december an indicated fault will induce a fail, I agree with this.
This will mean big business for someone producing occupancy sensors.

Hmmm good point! I think they will see what lights up when they start the car and then what goes out?
So that's my plan up the shitter! I was just going to take the airbag bulb out!!! Oh well looks like I'll have to get it fixed then!

Re: Changes to mot's as of april 2011
I thought HID kits were already a fail myself.
Cant understand the ECU one why on earth should it matter as long as the car passes the emissions etc
They bring out so many stupid rules now. This is going to effect more than just the people who own modified cars!!! People are going to loose there jobs!
Chipping remap companys??? how many are going to go bust and shut.
People that sell HID kits and make them...
They make these stupid pointless rules but then people STILL drive without any MOT and insurance sort them out first.
Then you have loads of illegal immigrants coming in sort that first, then you have foreign cars coming over from Europe whos owners are looking for work, these cars DONT have a MOT or Tax or our Insurance, I seen a Megane from a country starting with a P and it had a rust hole in the sill about a meter long!!! Rant over

You can get a jumper plug for them! The sensors are very easy to break! If you've ever knelt on your seat then you have broken it!!!!
